Why Babs is a Cora Wen fan

BY MAGAZINE COLUMNIST BARBARA DENOWH

Ah, day two. Where the magic happens.

The apprehension and self consciousness from day one is gone. Every one in the group is already a familiar face. Things begin to open up, or as Cora would say, bloom.

There are two things that really drew me to Cora.

Her humor. She makes this practice fun. At times hilarious. I guess, for me, there is enough serious crap in this world and when I practice I do it to feel better. Humor is a huge part of that.

Her sincerity. I think a lot of people can fake it, but you know down to your bones that Cora is for real. In every perfect and imperfect way. This sincerity, her desire to SHARE and to teach, makes her approachable and gives her teaching a palpable vibe. This is learning that you can do something with. Not only do something with, but do something great with.

The sessions at this training are ALIVE. They aren’t static. There isn’t a syllabus to get through. Cora isn’t telling us what she thinks would make a great teacher, rather she is showing us what a great teacher is, how that teacher shares, and then lets you decide how to be your best teacher.

What is really remarkable about the training is that Cora knows who you are, where you teach, what you teach, and who your students are. We will be working on a pose and she will have modifications and ideas not just for her audience, but for our audience.

Speaking about remarkable, if you’ve ever taken a class with Cora you’ll know what I mean, something magic always happens. It can be something small, not actual magic, but it can seem earth shattering.
